Made to work for you.

We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA. This page says what that means here, how the site was checked, and what has not been checked yet.

What you can rely on

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone. A Skip to content link comes first, and the place you are at is always outlined.
  • Pages change without reloading. The new page's title is announced and focus moves to its content, as it would after a normal page load.
  • Motion follows your system's reduce motion setting. The footer has a switch that does the same for this site, and another that swaps the custom pointer for the plain one. Nothing flashes.
  • Text can be enlarged with the browser's zoom, to 400%, and the layout reflows to a single column as narrow as 320 pixels.
  • Every pair of text colours was measured and meets the AA contrast ratio. In forced-colours (high contrast) modes the site uses your system colours, and what is chosen, pressed or current is shown with the highlight colour.
  • The home page sentence, the Brief page and the timeline can be used with a keyboard. The ticket on the Brief page is sent by tearing it along the crease, by moving the scissors with the arrow keys and pressing Enter, or with the Send without dragging button. The arrow keys alone never send it.
  • Form fields have visible labels. Problems are written next to the field and announced, and nothing is cleared when one appears.
  • Illustrations that only decorate are hidden from screen readers. Pictures that carry information have a description.

How it was checked

Every page is checked with axe-core, which finds some, not all, accessibility problems, and the test suite fails if it reports any. The rest is covered by scripted checks: keyboard walk-throughs of every page and widget, forwards and backwards, that the focused control is never hidden under the header or the fare bar, focus returning to where it came from, contrast of every colour pair, layouts from 320 to 1920 pixels wide and at 400% zoom, text spacing set to the larger values WCAG names, reduced motion, forced colours, and the print layout.

What has not been checked

The site has not been tested by people using screen readers, voice control or switch devices, and not on real phones or tablets. Its semantics were checked by tools and by reading the code, which is not the same as listening to it. If you use any of these, we would like to hear how it went.

Tell us about a problem

Write to hello@throughline.example and say which page, which device and which assistive technology you use. A screenshot or a sentence about what you expected is enough.
